Name
Amplifying Student Voice and GAFE in your Math Classroom
Date & Time
Sunday, April 8, 2018, 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Description
GAFE and Chromebooks are powerful multimedia tools and devices that, quite simply, capture things that a pencil sometimes can’t. We think of the technology as a tool of empowerment and voice amplification in a math classroom. Students can be provided with agency in HOW they share their math thinking. Bring your device and be ready for a fun, fast-paced session on GAFE that can be provided as options for students in a primary, junior or intermediate math classroom. Walk away with ideas as to how students can create a body of digital work that speaks to (and for!) them. Learn how to scaffold digital learning opportunities where engagement becomes empowerment as the power of choice is provided to students in showing what they know. Every great tool needs strong pedagogy. Be ready to explore self-assessment as a learning tool in the math block. Gain insights into how the use of reflection frameworks (e.g., single-point rubrics, google forms) affect student metacognition and ownership in the assessment process. See how it builds towards modern learners who understand that their own voice is crucial when discussing strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement.
