Description
We need to empower our Modern Learners so they are actively engaged and we are providing them with multiple and varied ways of demonstrating their content knowledge and skills. Taking a look at Peel District School Board’s Empowering Modern Learners (EML) document we need to utilize technology to foster the growth and development of our 21st Century Competencies for the Modern Learner: Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Collaboration, Communication, Learning to Learn, Global Citizenship, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. Involving students in the assessment framework and co-constructing effective assessments and ensuring timely, descriptive feedback is given is imperative for students to become actively involved as a co-learners. Through the use of applications such as Google Classroom, Google Forms, Coaches Eye, Hudle, Screencastify and Flipgrid, participants will have an opportunity to explore how these Google applications can be used to assess student learning and offer varied and effective feedback. This assessment framework allows for differentiation of instruction, differentiation of assessment, accommodating students needs, and allows students to learn in a safe, and nurturing climate while promoting students to be independent problem solvers and critical thinkers. works? Participants will learn how to shift their practise from teacher directed assessment to student driven assessment practices and explore how digital technologies provide an equitable approach to assessment for, as and of learning. Assessment for students becomes less focused on the mark but more importantly on the learning journey and the student’s ability to notice and name their learning throughout the process. When we embed informative assessment through the learning process, emplicity state learning goals, co-construct success criteria and offer immediate descriptive feedback we see a true shift in student empowerment, an increase in ownership and autonomy and students making deeper global connections.
