Description
Game design to teach programming, teamwork, film-making, and publishing to an authentic audience. This session will focus on a game design and creation unit based on the recent Nintendo "Game On" exhibition at the EMP in Seattle. This unit guides students through a 12 step process that most real games go through. We will explore the different stages of game making, including Planning, Creating, and Releasing their own original games. We will also explore a number of game making engines, playing different sample games from the unit. These include Scratch, Gamestar Mechanic, AgentSheets, Game Salad, YouTube, and many others. Different engines require different levels of programming knowledge, and we can find an engine that works for you even if you don't know any programming at all! Outcome Participants will leave with the knowledge and resources to replicate the entire game design unit in their own classrooms. We will also have a discussion of the pros/cons of each engine, and if time, brainstorm possible game design projects for your own classroom. Technology Requirements Laptop (Mac) Laptop (PC)
