Description
A Socratic seminar is a student-led discussion technique based on Socrates’ philosophy that deep learning occurs during questioning. This technique allows students to analyze and evaluate an artifact, such as an article, picture, or video. Socratic Seminars can be adapted for any age, ability level, and content area. Socratic Seminars have a long history in the K-12 and post-secondary education environment. The new tools made available through Google have streamlined the assessment and data collection process for Socratic Seminars. Google Docs and Google Classroom facilitate the preparation and reflection process for both the students and teacher. Google Forms offer a way for students to track their growth in seminar skills over time. Google Groups provide an electronic platform for an online discussion to take place.
