Description
Equity is not just about whether Computer Science classes are available, but also about how those classes are taught, how students are recruited, and how the classroom culture supports diverse learners and promotes retention. In this session, participants will explore how recruitment, curriculum, pedagogy, and classroom spaces can be made to be inviting towards girls, boys of color, and other underrepresented students in secondary computer science classrooms. Participants will learn about effective practices for broadening participation in computing, including an emphasis on culturally responsive teaching practices in the classroom. As an interactive session, participants will be immersed in and reflect on pedagogical practices and strategies that support CS for All students and lead to broadened participation in computing.
