Jamila “Mia” Leonard has been working in Chicago Public Schools for the past 8 years. Mia currently teaches kindergarten at National Teachers Academy. She has been integrating iPads in her kindergarten classroom since December 2012. Mia explores innovative methods to transform teaching and learning and empower her young students daily. She leverages self-created differentiated videos, Twitter and creative digital tools to scaffold learning for her students and create new opportunities for self expression. Mia is a Level 2 Google Certified Educator, Google Certified Innovator, PBS Digital Innovator, Seesaw Ambassador and currently coaches primary teachers (grades K-3) around technology with coaching partner Autumn Laidler. Mia has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Purdue University and a Master’s Degree in Education from National Louis University. Mia’s presented at the 2013 Chicago Public Schools iPad Academy, 2015 Chicago Future Ready Schools Summit and several EdTechTeam summits. Mia is currently a Co-Chair on the ISTE 2018 Conference committee. Mia is a former professional dancer and still enjoys taking an occasional dance class in her spare time.
