Matawan Regional High School
450 Atlantic Ave
Aberdeen Township, NJ 07747
Matawan Regional High School, the only high school in the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District, serves approximately 1,200 students. Our students receive countless awards and thousands of dollars in scholarships. Our graduates attend the finest colleges and universities.
Our course offerings are extensive, challenging and enjoyed by the students. We focus our courses on the preparation and transition of the student for future study and the world of work. Matawan Regional High School has recently implemented three Career Academies: Performing Arts, STEM and a Business Academy. These academies provide our students an opportunity to thrive in small learning communities in which emphasis is placed on rigorous course selections, internships and field experiences. The Freshman Academy is a small learning community composed of interdisciplinary academic teams with a dedicated administrator and counselor. The Common Core Curriculum Standards have been actively addressed within the school through professional learning communities meetings, K-12 articulation committee meetings, and faculty meetings. District standards continue to rise and be reinforced with the adoption of new programs and the continual review of existing ones. In addition to aligning our subjects with the common core standards, our academic program includes many Advanced Placement and Honor courses. Pupils may select from among four world languages (Latin, Spanish, Italian, & French). For those interested in the Fine Arts, we offer a comprehensive Art Major's program. An academic tutorial program is available after school and during lunch periods for students experiencing difficulties in their academic subjects. Our instructors enjoy their work and this is reflected in their teaching. There are three teachers with doctorates and the majority of our teachers have earned master's degrees in their fields.
Our extracurricular and co-curricular activities recognize both academic and special interests. The Honors Math Club has excelled in competition; the History and Government Club brings our students to the very historical sites they study in class; the Huskieview, our school newspaper, acknowledges all aspects of the school; our Forensic Team continues to win local and state awards; and our Academic Challenge Team continues to do well locally and state wide. Also, our award winning band, the "Marching Huskies" continues to participate in local and regional competitions bringing distinction to themselves and to the community. Our Concert Choir and Chamber Choir have won local and regional recognition. Yearly, our Theater Arts program presents a spring musical and fall production that rivals professional performances. An active Peer Leadership program supports peer mediation, new student orientation, and various support groups. In addition to clubs, there are twenty eight sports offered throughout the academic year, many consisting of various levels of participation. Over the years, our athletes and their respective teams have earned distinction.
Our focus is on the student, the learning process, and the relationship of the student to the community and society at large. We strive to have the community of parents and residents join us in fulfilling our mission. Students are assisting various community agencies and acquiring a true understanding of the community through their involvement in community service programs. Parental involvement is both valued and encouraged. MRHS is truly a school for everyone. It is a school where young adults tum their dreams into reality through their education.
