Name
Provocative Pedagogies: Practising Paideia Thinking
Date & Time
Tuesday, July 10, 2018, 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Description
Outline: Going back to the time of Socrates and the encouragement of argumentation and critical thinking, the Paideia approach provides a forum for face to face and digital dialogic discussion. The act of examining provocative or contentious topics in a ‘forum’ is the vehicle for fostering critical thinking. Students can find it difficult to argue agreeably and deeply, but this method promotes ways of engaging students in challenging conversations, which enrich language acquisition and encourages dialogic discussion. We will set up a Paideia Seminar and provocations, to demonstrate how this fosters critical thinking and argumentation. A site will provide resources for an ongoing programme, using digital affordances.
