Halswell School first opened in 1864 and is one of the first schools rebuilt after the first major earthquake in Canterbury in September 2010 quake. The school has 2.6 hectares of area just off State Highway 75 in the southwest of Christchurch City. Halswell School opened their new buildings in May 2015 which allowed access to new and bigger multipurpose space, which could be utilised by the local community.
